The Story and Inspiration for Breaking Silence
Breaking Silence began as a club at Grace University started by Kelly Alonzo, but our story did not end there. Kelly started becoming more active online with the club, eventually leading to where we are today. We have team members in multiple areas; Texas, California, West Virginia, and the Netherlands. So, what was Kelly’s inspiration for continuing Breaking Silence outside of the club at her university?
“But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.” – Ephesians 5:13 (NIV)
This verse reminds us that when we share our stories we can become a light for others. This is a reason breaking our silence is important. Not only will it help us know we are not alone, but it will help others know they are not alone.
“Secrets make you sick.” – TWLOHA Movie
That quote is from the To Write Love On Her Arms movie. It is truth. The longer we keep things inside, staying silent, the longer they can harm us. We all need people we can talk to, it is not healthy to bottle everything inside.
This all leads to how we are breaking silence on our health; mental health, physical health, and spiritual health. All three encompass areas of our lives. We need to talk about all areas if we want to be healthy, strong, people. Talk about mental health, talk about what it means to be physically healthy, talk about what spiritual health looks like. Talk. Talk. Talk. Find the truth, let’s all be silence breakers.
